Hal Walker is a joke!

Why shouldn't the people of Alberta raise the royalties paid by oil and gas companies?

What are they going to do - go elsewhere? If so - where?

Alberta has some of the biggest deposits of oil in the WORLD.

Australian went through the same BS a couple of years ago with Big Oil claiming they'd no longer invest there if royalties went up - and said they would move somewhere else.

Hello People - there is NOWHERE else these companies can pull resources out of the ground for as cheaply and efficiently as Canada and Australia. So they are going NOWHERE.

As for Hal's assertion that other economies are doing better during this disastrous global economy... please point out which ones?

Greece? The UK? How about even Germany? ALL of them have contracting economies.

Who's paying you Hal? Exxon? Shell? I hope so because otherwise I will assume you are just plain stupid

Thanks so much Shane! It's been a tough day. I'm a 'healthy snacker' and to not have the intake of food does not have me feeling very good.
The most predominant thought I have is that I can't imagine not having an option to eat. I know I will eat at the end of this day- I CAN NOT imagine what it is like for the kids in Calgary that do not have that option.
I am THANKFUL that for over 10 years BB4CK is doing all it can to help these kids out with at least a healthy lunch. And THANKFUL for the people in this community that step up every day to give of their hearts, hands, and financial generosity.

I believe the issue is neither of these. The issue is the Alberta Government gives x amount of dollars to x University. X University turns around and uses part of their funding to make a donation back to the party or to buy tickets to a fundraising dinner. My understanding has never been about personal purchases but instead public money. Have I, and others musunderstood?

What about the fact the PCs send out invites to prohibited organizations? That is also illegal.

Also upsetting is the laws the governing PCs have set up around political corruption investigations: the investigations are secretive, done behind closed doors and no investigations are released. If any political information should ever by public, it should be investigations into political ethics and breaking of laws.
Openness, transparency and trust all ideals of Alison and the current "Changed from within" rendition of the PC party? Prove it, release the details and then my "fake" outrage will be lessened (but probably to be reignited by yet further proof later of more wrongdoing).

This illegal fundraising has been going on for decades. It's only now, that the Wildrose have formed a viable alternative to government, that the PCs are facing up to this and beginning to accept responsibility.
Yes, perhaps the donations can be innocent, but it's the culture of acceptance of such scenarios that are created through one party rule. The fact this illegal fundraising is out front and centre is thanks to great media work and great opposition work.
Illegal fundraising not a big deal to the PCs? Well, it's a big deal to the rest of Albertans who don't appreciate their tax dollars helping a tired, run down party go out and slog unoriginal ideas in the hopes of pulling the wool one more time over the eyes of Albertans.

I agree with you on some points Shane and with Anon that the reality is this scenario can happen to any party.

However do these individuals not realize they are committing taxation fraud? If not at the time, surely they would question it when they fill out their tax return. IE: "Hmmm, I'm getting a tax deduction for a donation that I was refunded for?"

I read that MRU only refunds the portion which they don't receive a deduction for. In my mind they realize the tax implications, but fail to realize they are still contributing public funds to a political party.

As I mentioned in my recent blog piece on this topic, I think it's Elections Alberta that needs more (better) support. I believe there is onus on them to be educating the organizations involved.

Further, if this is the case with the PCs, then it only follows that all of the political parties are likely to have similar situations in their donations.

It is highly unlikely that any political party actively solicit these organizations for donations.

Its a tempest in a teapot, but neither the first nor last that we will see originate from the Wildrose.

To be right does not make anyone a bigot we have too many commentators who do not remember the devastation that P. E. Trudeau brought unto this country. We are still carrying the economic woes he bestowed upon us as well as the multi-cultural, bilingualism etc that have never worked will never work. I am glad J. kee-nney is at least taking some minute steps to rectify this.

There seem to be some irritated people giving negative comments about Cross Iron Mills. They are probably just upset as they live in the south and have to deal with the nightmare of getting to Chinook or the overrated Southcentre or Market malls. Fact is it was the first part of a continuing plan to provide a shopping and entertainment destination, give it time and stop the hating.

Oil patch does not trust Alberta's Conservatives.
A few years ago Alberta raised royalty rates which drove billions of investments out of Alberta. Some went into Saskactewan and some to B.C. and the rest went to other Countries.
Eventually, Alberta rolled back the royalty rates but the billions of lost investments will never come back to Alberta.
This Conservative Government even forced increases in existing legal long term royalty agreements in two Oil Sands developments.

I heard many foreign investors are afraid to invest in Alberta because of this action Alberta had taken on existing long term royalty agreements.

I helped 5 MLA's get into office by donating money, donating my time and much more.

The P.C.s today are old fashioned and do not pay attention to Voters.

There are NO reasons for Alberta to be in a deficit financial position.

Finally someone who "matters" has stood up to the tyranny that is the Ramsay Community. The reality is that they are a bunch of uninformed people that do not have any understanding of what a vibrant community might entail much less the ability to read plans and evaluate them. The amount of power they weild as ordinary citizens on decisions is preposterous - thank god someone has noticed and dared to stand up to it - the City of Calgary certainly hasn't.

Speaking from experience, having resigned as a CA President and cancelled membership in the party, the Wildrose routinely breaks CA bylaws and the Party Constitution to pull strings. To sell your party as "big tent" and "grassroots driven", then pass internal policy to forward that image while paying no attention to it when the "need" arises, speaks volumes of the actual status of the Wildrose.

Parachuting candidates with no history in the party, over-riding CA boards, leading potential candidates on to extract their donations and forcing nomination contests have happened. And will continue to happen. If this is how members are treated who volunteer their time and money, how can we be expected to trust the Wildrose with the levers of power?
