Where Else Can You Mix Charity, Bowling and Politics? 

 I am excited to announce that we will be hosting our third annual bowling charity event on August 25, 2014.  The last event was very successful and sold out fairly quickly!  We will be inviting local citizens, politicians, media personalities and the #yyc "Twitterati" to come out and enjoy a fun night of bowling for a great local charity!   

As board chair of Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids ( BB4CK) I am excited that this event will be held again.  The proceeds will go to BB4CK to help provide lunches for needy local school kids and I hope that it will be a huge success.

About BB4CK: 

 BB4CK works in partnership with the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Separate School District to combat increasing numbers of students attending Calgary schools without a lunch. BB4CK is delivering 1,500+ lunches each day to over 60 schools.

  In addition to providing lunches from our main kitchen they are also supporting many community based initiatives.  These include churches, community centres, schools and individuals who want to take action and support the children in their communities.  Each program is unique and built to fit the community it serves.  BB4CK is supporting over 60 community based programs.

Since September 2013, they have provided over 103,000 lunches to needed school kids!

Thanks For Making The #PoliBowl 2013 Charity Bowling Event A Huge Success!

I wanted to send a huge thank you to everyone who attended the August 26, 2013 #PoliBowl event at the Century Casino Bowling Centre!  Thanks to the amazing generosity of local politicians and concerned citizens, we were able to raise close to $4500 for Brown Bagging For Calgary Kids and The Calgary Foundation Flood Recovery Fund!

There were over 150 people at this sold out event, including over 25 local politicians that are running for election in the 2013 Calgary municipal election, along with local media.  By all accounts it turned out to be a fun event and nobody reported any smashed toes, which is great news!

Let's Use Social Media To Raise Some Extra Money At PoliBowl 2013!

  First off, I would like to thank everyone for their amazing support of #polibowl 2013!  This event sold out in less than three weeks, and I am blown away by this!  With three days to go until the event, I thought I would try and tie in a fun way to try and raise some additional funds for Brown Bagging For Calgary's Kids by harnessing the power of social media!

  Back in December, my pal Joey Oberhoffner had a wonderful idea to help raise money for and Inn From The Cold Christmas fundraiser that I was trying to organize.  He pulled together a "foodapolooza" fundraiser, where individuals reached out to their social media contacts to "sponsor" them in their efforts to devour Tacos/Wings at a local pub.  Through twitter, we were able to raise close to $5000 via these small individual donations (we then had a $5000 matching gift via an anonymous donor) which was amazing!  You can read about this December event here:

  The success of this cool idea really proved to me the power of social media and how a large number of people can make a huge difference by donating small amounts to a good cause.

 So, JUST FOR FUN.... I think we should try this at #polibowl 2013!!

  How will it work?

 Reach out to your Facebook/Twitter contacts and friends/colleagues and asked them to support you in your bowling efforts!  The possibilities are endless and really up to you!  Some ideas that may work...

• $0.10 per point! 
• $3/spare! 
• $1/gutterball! 

 Keep track of your individual donations and have your contacts submit their donations directly to Brown Bagging For Calgary Kids ( after the event) on their website at: http://bb4ck.org/donating-to-bb4ck/

I bet than we can easily raise $500 ( maybe even $1000!) for this amazing charity and have a ton of fun using social media to do this!  Remember, this is just a fun idea and not mandatory!  

The person that raises the most money at the event will win the amazing trophy pictured above and will be able to hang that on their mantle for years to come! 

The CalgaryPolitics.com Charity Bowling Event Was A Blast!

  Thanks again to everyone that supported the CalgaryPolitics.com Charity Bowling Event that we hosted last night! The event was completely sold out and we had over 150 people in attendance, including over 20 candidates in the upcoming Calgary Municipal Election!  

  Everyone seemed to have a great time and we raised $2800 for Brown Bagging For Calgary's Kids Society , which is pretty amazing!  This amount will supply nearly 2800 lunches for needy school kids in the Calgary area!

 We also had some support from the business community, with Carma Developers, BiFrost Development, Canada Brokerlink Inc. and Principia Communications sponsoring the charity event!

And finally a big thanks to the media personalities that supported us, including CTV Calgary, Global Calgary, Metro Calgary ( Darren Krause) AMP Radio ( Buzz and Blake) FFWD Magazine ( Trevor Scott Howell)  Calgary Herald ( Jason Markusoff, Colette Derworiz and Kelly Doody!) and QR77's Mike Blanchard!

Charity Bowling Event!

                                     

 Many of you know that I am a regular volunteer and a huge supporter of Brown Bagging it for Calgary's Kids Society ( BB4CK). The gents over at calgarypolitics.com and I have decided to organize a Charity Bowling Event to help raise awareness and some money for this amazing group!  With the 2010 Calgary Election less than two months away, we thought it would be fun to mix Bowling and Politics for a good cause!

Join in as local Bloggers, Media and Candidates for the 2010 Calgary Municipal Election help to "Strike Out" Hunger  This fun event will take place on Monday August 30, 2010 at 6:30-9pm.  The response so far has been amazing and tickets/lanes are selling quickly, with many candidates already booking lanes! 

All proceeds will go to support BB4CK!   Brown Bagging It For Calgary's Kids Society is a local organization that provides nutritious lunches to almost 1600 needy children a day!  Their website is http://www.makeityourproblem.ca/
